Recent findings by Midgaard economists have discovered that the cumulative sums of gold pieces in the Bank of Midgaard are threatening to destroy the world.
"There are at least 3,000 bank accounts in Midgaard with over 5 million gold pieces in them," said a financial expert yesterday, "and some accounts are even worse, containing in hundreds of millions."
Such vast amounts of gold have made the metal so common that its value has become less than iron, vastly affecting the value of the currency. At present rates, it is estimated that in 2 years, 10 Million gold pieces or more will be required merely to buy a pot pie.
However, a more serious threat lurks under the economic crisis. The cumulative weight of all the money is starting to tilt the world off its rotational axis, causing dramatic changes in the climate.
"Have you been to Atlantis recently?" said Dragonsbane, an experienced adventurer, "Last time I did, I barely got my ankles wet."
The damage may not stop there though, experts believe. At the present rate of saving, it is believed that within 5 years, the amount of gold in the vaults will have sufficient mass to draw our world out of it's orbit and send it plummeting towards the sun.
The mages' guild are currently working on a contingency plan to avoid this disaster, which would involve launching the mass of money into orbit, creating a fourth, golden moon.
"There's a good chance this might have an adverse affect on the magical fields of Aardwolf", said the head of the guild, "possibly causing huge dimensional rifts across the planet which will spew forth the legions of hell and all their foul minions."
"We remain optimistic, however." he added.
