The Girl Who Leapt Through Space ("Sora o Kakeru Shoujo" or just "Sora Kake Girl" in Japanese) has absolutely nothing to do with the similarly-titled feature-length animation The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. It does have a sizable helping of parody of other well-known anime shows in, however, and if like me you prefer watching your anime with the original Japanese audio, you might notice a voice or two that you recognise.

Anyway, here's the lowdown: it's the future, and for no adequately-explained reason everyone seems to be living in a fleet of space colonies known as Kirkwood. Every so often, random debris appears in the space around Kirkwood, seemingly coming from Earth's past. It doesn't happen often enough or cause enough trouble to be an urgent priority though, so the case gets assigned to the special investigations department of the InterColony Police.

Meanwhile, a girl named Akiha Shishidou (who comes from a high-status family) ends up running away from A massive old-style space colony arrives out of nowherean arranged-marriage meeting set up by her older sister Kazane. During her flight, another of the strange unexplained debris events occurs... except that this time it's not just debris, a massive old-style space colony arrives out of nowhere. Akiha ends up crash-landing on it, and eventually meets its controlling AI, Leopard. From then on, things get really complicated as Akiha becomes embroiled in retrieving lost parts for Leopard and then the discovery that Leopard's (and humanity's) old enemy Nerval is still around.

It's a fun show, although it can be very silly at times and there seems to be rather a lot of sexual innuendo, but comedy SF seems fairly rare these days so if you're looking for a laugh it's worth checking out.
